Our values


Kireka Housing Co-operative shares the values identified by the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) as below:

Co‑operatives are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. In the tradition of their founders, co‑operative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. ICA, 1995.

Our objectives

  1. To buy or acquire land and property for members benefit.

  2. To build low cost, low energy and low environmental impact homes or otherwise works of a common utility to the society.

  3. To repair, alter or otherwise deal with the buildings of the society.

  4. To raise and/or borrow funds required for the business of the society.

  1. To invest in and promote use of renewable energy, environmental conservation and other sustainable technologies.

  2. To campaign and lobby for changes to unfair housing policies, cultural practices, attitudes and systems which marginalize low income earners especially women and youth.
